COFFEE FARMS
THE COFFEE BELT
In recent times there has been a huge effort made by various organizations in the major coffee growing countries to educate the local coffee farmers.
These organizations have been founded by the local government to fight against the main threats to the coffee of crop disease and global warming.
These organisations trial varieties of coffee in different areas to understand how the coffee adapts to the individual climates. The information is then shared openly with the farmers in the hope that it increases the harvest yield and protects this industry for years to come. They also educate the farmers on best practices to achieve specialty coffee standard.
This might mean rather than picking ripe and unripe fruits from the tree at the same time, the farmer might have to make multiple passes to ensure that the crop being harvested is ripe. It could also mean that the farmer might have to introduce some natural shading or protection for the coffee by planting larger trees near the coffee to protect it from the harsh elements.

Coffee farms are generally located at high altitudes in countries situated along what is called “the Coffee belt”. The Coffee belt is the area either side of the equator called the Tropic of Cancer to the north of the equator and the tropic of Capricorn to the south of the equator.
